The Achievement Gap

1)What do YOU think causes the gap? I think that the gap is caused by many different things. The lack of interest in school is one of the reasons because now a days students think that dropping out of school and doing drugs and joining gangs is the cool thing to do. When a kid has no support from his/her parent then of course the kid is not going to care about how they do and then it comes to a point where they end up dropping out and screwing up their life.

2)What can students do to close the gap?I think that students can help close the gap by caring about their future and thinking of how they can better themselves in life. If more students start looking at how bums live and how they have no roof under their heads then maybe students will start to recognize that they should do good in school in order to have a brighter future.

3)What can parents do to close the gap?Parents can first give a little support to their child because many kids don't know how it feels to have your parent care about you. They can also become more involved with the school and go to meetings on how to make their child's future better for them. But by doing this then the kid also has to know that they have to step it up a notch and do better.

4)What can teachers/schools do to close the gap? Teachers can help by not putting so much pressure on the student because many times a teacher has to keep pushing a student and then the student thinks to him/her self that they can't do it. The school can do it by letting students do what they want because a student feels better doing what they have to do by doing it in a comfortable way.

Questions On Tom Hayden

1) What did you think about Tom Hayden? I thought that Tom Hayden was an interesting person to meet. He was very talkative but had an interesting way to keep the conversation going. I thought that he was going to be boring but he turned out to be a very interesting man.

2)Tom Hayden does not think of himself as a civil rights leader. Do you see him as one? Why or why not? I really don't think of him as a civil rights leader because he has participated in many organizations but he hasn't changed nothing in the world. All he has done is talked and said his opinion on different subjects but he hasn't had an impact on anything. I would consider him as a civil rights leader if he went down on history like Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.

3)Tom Hayden feels that leaders are not as important as the hundreds of thousands of people behind them. What does he mean by that? I think that he means that just one person doesn't express what others feel like. I think that the thoughts and opinions of others matter more than the thoughts and opinions of just one person.

My Pink Nano

I've had my pink nano already for like 2 or 3 weeks and i havent been able to put music on it because i found out that i needed a cd. So then i havent out any songs or anything. When i bring it to school all i do is play games or anything that will keep me entertained during lunch. Yesterday my sister the genius went and was actually able to put music on it. I was so happy. But then she had to kill it when she told me that since she put the music on that she was going to be the first one to use it and take it to work. I was mad but happy because i finally get to use it. If i couldnt put music on by today i was going to take it back to the store and get my money back. I was going to buy some black uggs and black retros with that money.

Stop Hurting Yourself

I think that you put up that sign because you see us hurting our grade everyday. When we do things like not complete an assignment or not have our shirts tucked in. We are hurting ourselves because our grades are dropping and we are losing money that could come in handy in other situations. We could save money by just simply tucking in our shirts or not chew gum in class. We could also better our grade by completing our assignment.
